ONCE YOU GET CONCEIVE ONE SHOULD PLANT A VISIT THE DENTIST
If you plan to start a family, have a thorough dental examination, professional cleaning and radiographs before becoming pregnant. Complete all recommended treatment so that your mouth is in great health.
1st TRIMESTER : During Pregnancy Tell your dentist (and doctor) if you are pregnant. Avoid dental X-rays during pregnancy. Don’t skip your dental check-up appointment simply because you are pregnant.
PREGNANCY GINGIVITIS : Take regular gum examination because pregnancy causes hormonal changes that put you at increased risk for periodontal disease and for tender gums that bleed easily.
COPING WITH MORNING SICKNESS : Follow good oral hygiene practices to prevent and / or reduce oral health problems.
USE BLAND TOOTHPASTE to avoid morning sickness.
RINSE YOUR MOUTH frequently if suffering from morning sickness.
USE A SOFT TOOTHBRUSH With a small toothbrush head to prevent vomiting. Don’t brush right after vomiting.
2nd TRIMESTER : AVOID SUGARY SNACKS Even though you may be craving them.
HELP BUILD HEALTHY TEETH FOR YOU AND YOUR BABY. Maintain a diet rich in Vitamin C, Vitamin B12 and Calcium.
3rd TRIMESTER : AVOID DENTAL TREATMENTS During the last weeks of pregnancy, except for emergency cases.
BRUSHING AND FLOSSING Remain especially thorough in your home care.
SCHEDULE A DENTAL APPOINTMENT After the baby is born.
